I am not going to guess how much money rugby league in Britain and advertising in Britain generate each year. What I do know is that rugby league scouts are out and about doing what they are supposed to do, find new talent. In May I visited Cardiff to view the exhibition of students who had been my first year students at the University of South Wales. There was in my view a lot of good ideas on show, and some were very good. It was great to chat and have a laugh with the soon to graduate young people, some of whom had already found jobs. Also present at this happy day were owners and management of ad agencies, branding companies, media agencies, from Bristol and Cardiff. They have been very engaged and supportive of the students, largely due to the engagement of a senior lecturer and former course leader, who is a Londoner, went to St. Martins, and worked at McCann Erickson. But at this show, buzzing with energy, in a great little city with intelligent, dynamic, keen minded and friendly people, and a total student population of around 55,000 when all three Cardiff universities are in session, I didn't become aware of any representatives from any London ad agencies, or the major media groups such as Omnicom, WPP, and the rest.
Am I missing something?
