I once watched a TV interview with Sir Billy Connolly.
When asked about his early life – serving a welding apprenticeship in a shipyard – he fondly remembered the humour as the daily highlight in that workplace.

The interviewer asked: Was there anybody there who was as funny as you, Billy?
His eyes widened incredulously: “They were ALL funnier than me!”

His success was to take that humour out of the shipyard and bring it into the folk music clubs.
